  Reply | Contact  Morning all, it's very wet underfoot from another night of rain but it doesn't look quite so bad as it did last Thursday so it looks like I shouldn't come across too many flooded roads on the way in today. The courgettes are very easy Richard, I usually grow two plants and put them in very large pots.  I sowed my blue peas just over a week ago.  I did them on the end of a row of the mangetout peas so I know which ones they are Have a good day everyone and will catch up again later. sue1002

  Reply | Contact  Morning all. Very wet here too Sue we had lots of rain over night and very strong winds too. The sun was out first thing but soon went and it is looking very much like rain again.  Hope you don't find any flooded roads this week . Yes my chicken pie was home made, I agree the ready made ones are all pastry and hardly any filling. I put leeks and onions in with the chicken and a white sauce rather than gravy. Must admit it went down very well and Maisie and Khan helped to finish it off. I am looking forward to growing the blue peas Richard and the Hestia beans too as I have read good things about them. I haven't sowed any courgettes this year, but since you are late with yours I might still do a few. I had a hunt round the garden last night, before the rain, hunting for slugs and snails and you wouldn't believe the ammount I found , one thing made me smile though, whilst going round the veggies I found a HUGE toad between a row of lettuce plants so I am sure he will be well fed Oh well, best get on, can't be bothered this morning...........

  Reply | Contact  Good Afternoon all. A bit damp here too lillyrose, and I saw a snail crawling up the front of the shed. I went out and cleared one of the windowboxes in the shed and planted it up with some mesembryanthemum plants I had growing indoors on the upstairs windowsill. I haven't sown my blue peas yet, I should really get cracking with them. Thanks Sue I may have a go with the courgette plant then. I need to get the runner bean plants in next,hopefully by the weekend, under the glass frames. Last day in work for the week Sue which is good news. -Richard

Your pie sounded really gorgeous Lillyrose, and I did manage to scoff the mackerel but thanx for your kind offer I haven't sown my blue peas yet either Richard Along with loads of other things I should have sown, I'm still going to sow a load of stuff next week though and keep my fingers crossed I haven't 'missed the boat'! Well I've been up to the new place today 'tweeking' for tomorrow, tested out the new wireless router up there on my mobile and it works, (thank god) I got to look at our IC thread - BUT Lillyrose, I wasn't as clever as you, and couldn't work out how to 'log on' to the rhs, it only came up with the 'register' page for newcomers Gammon, pineapple and chips for us tonight!

Your gammon and pineapple sounds nice. It will be handy having Internet access at the new place for your guests. Nicola is just off delivering a small wedding cake and cup cakes locally that she made for Saturday's wedding. They are getting married   in Kent..maybe somewhere by you lillyrose -Richard

  Reply | Contact  Your pie last night sounds delicious lillyrose, let me know when you're next making one and I'll be on my way over  It's great that you have the huge toad to eat the slugs before they get your veggies I think the one you saw was probably a female one and is about to lay loads of spawn, lets hope that you get loads of little toadlets running about in a few months. If you had one snail crawling up the shed Richard, I wouldn't be at all surprised if you have a thousand more underneath the shed  When we moved a shed before, we found hundreds of snails huddled up underneath it and most were actually stuck upside down to the shed base. It does sound like you've got what we had last week Susiq, it was ok for me going into work this morning, the road I wasn't able to go down last week only had a small amount of water laying across it so I got through that ok today.  It started raining again about half an hour before I left off and the drive home was horrible, it was the roads a lot nearer home that had a lot of surface water on it which seemed like it didn't know which way to go... sue1002

  Reply | Contact  Oooo I hope you are right about getting loads of toadlets Sue. I will certainly give you a shout next time I make chicken pie.  How much did you pay for Jersey's in Sainsburys Sue? I nipped to the market this morning and bought some, they were on sale at £2 a kilo. We have had sun on and off most of the afternoon but it keeps spitting with rain now. Gosh Richard, Nicola's cakes are traveling if some found their way to Kent. Mind you if I was getting married I would deffo get her to make my wedding cake . Save me some gammon Susiq, since you ate the fish

  Reply | Contact Girls, girls! I am green with envy - see - I just don't get out enough, and have TOTALLY missed the fact that the Jersey's are now in the shops! Will have to make an effort to go 'somewhere' tomorrow to get some, I can taste them now, dripping with butter! Your risotto sounds great Richard, hope you all enjoy it Glad the roads weren't quite as bad for you Sue, but I dread those short stretches when you think you're might 'aquaplane' if you're not careful Lillyrose don't want to 'rain on your parade' - pardun the pun, but as you know, we've got hundreds of toads, and yep - even more of the dreaded slugs and snails - so don't hold your breath that your lovely toad will save the day It's nice to think they will do the job and I'm sure they really do actually help loads, but they (the slugs etc) are cunning little so and so's

  Reply | Contact  Morning all, it's a lovely sunny one here today and hoping it's going to stay the same way all day and hope everyone else is having some of the same too. Hope you manage to make it out today Susiq to get your JR's, you're usually one of the first people to spot when they're in the shops I'm off into town shortly and will make the most of the weather when I get back, I've already taken some plants out of the greenhouse and put them outside to start hardening them off.   sue1002

You can almost hear all the plants making happy noises this morning with the lovely sun. Ooooo Susiq, JR's dripping in butter you can't get much better.   Reply | Contact  Wow that was a nice surprise Sue and worth having too. I like the seed tin. The bargains I found in Sainsburys were a huge pack of Ariel actilift half price at £10, that will last me for months, comfort softner, JR's, bacon, Richmond sausages, and rainbow trout. Oh yes and all sainsburys dog treats had 20% off so I stocked up on them. We have got a mix of sun and cloud here and like you Sue it has turned rather breezy but it is still nice out there. I put a line full of washing out before I went shopping and it was dry when I got back
