Morning all, warming up here too Sue . It was really cold here last night, I put Moo and Khan out about ten and I could see my breath as I stood out there with them. It was quiet in town here first thing Sue and I had a nice shop for a change. There is a new shop opened up this week, one of the ones that sells just xmas stuff then closes in the new year, so I nipped in for a look and bought some really nice cards, wrapping paper and a HUGE gift bag to put GS's pressies in . I am off in the garden now, will clean some more pots and trays and move my delicate plants in the GH too. x

Hi all, I can't believe how warm it is today and no change-over to do either
Ha ha nice one Sue, on your freebie I'm going to clean down the GH today as its so warm, and er after watching Monty Don last night doing his, don't think mine will come up as good as his did You've also reminded me to get the fig tree undercover, thanks!
Sounds like you had a very tiring day indeed yesterday Lillyrose - are you SURE that bag you bought is gonna be big enough
We are also popping out later to collect some sloes, fingers crossed all the trees haven't been stripped bare already As you all know, the sloe gin comp is a big deal up here in the new year, so the race to collect them will be on!

hello everyone, we have a bit of sun here today so im in the garden getting it tidy ready for the winter months,(which are round the corner). iv picked my toms of and stuck them in a plastic pot with some bananas see if they ripen. im wondering if you can eat cumcumber that looks like this http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k12/noney82/my%20garden/fd595c09.jpg? or do i risk making myself ill?
so just got the grass to cut then brew time :)

The lemon tree and Dipladenia are now in the greenhouse and I've also finished weeding the front garden which I first started at the beginning of the week, and once that was done, I planted the rest of the daff bulbs You did well shopping this morning lillyrose, it sounds like GS is going to be thoroughly spoiled I expect with this year being his first 'proper' one, he's going to be a lot more aware than he would have been last year. I got my cards and paper in the sales at the beginning of the year (as I very often do) so I don't have to worry about looking for those Hope you managed to get some sloes Susiq, I know you will be sorely disappointed if they have all been collected before you get there Have fun cleaning your greenhouse up, at least I've been saved that job this year but I'll still be needing to get the bubblewrap out in a couple of weeks or so. Sorry anthonyD, I don't know the answer to your cucumber question except you don't know unless you try, I would try a small piece first.

What a lovely day it has been here It sounds as though we have all been busy in the garden today. I cleaned a load more pots and moved some plants into the GH. I also got rid of the last of the lobelia in the pots as it was looking really tatty. Well done on finishing the weeding in the front garden Sue and planting up the daffs. I am really looking forward to xmas with GS, as you rightly said he will be much more aware this year. It will be nice for your SS and DIL too this year now they have little James. My DIL was saying the other day that they will have to re think their tree this year, they usually have a massive real one but not a good idea with a 'small person' about. Good luck with your sloe hunting Susiq, hope you manage to find enough for your sloe gin. We have got plenty down here. How did you get on with cleaning the GH.

Well done to you too lillyrose on what you got done in the garden today Yes, SS & DIL are looking forward to their first Christmas with James. I can see your SS & DIL are going to need to make a decision with their tree this year and have probably got two choices - go for a smaller one that can be put out of reach or go for their usual one and little 'un will soon learn that the tree is prickly Well done anthonyD for trying the cucumber, at least you now know in future if you get those shaped ones instead of the longer ones, they're not going to be very nice.

Morning all, I'm glad I got those plants under cover yesterday as we had a ground frost last night and my, was it quite nippy taking Sasha out this morning, she loved it though and has much more spring in her step I'm going to get a bit more done in the garden today, I haven't seen any cabbage white butterflies about lately so it should be safe to take the netting off the brassica cage and give that a wash.

Morning all, sunny here but very chilly. Brrrrr Sue, frost. I bet Sasha loved running on the grass, I know Khan does and he loves rolling in frosty grass too. You certainly timed that right with your plants and the GH. It wont be long till we are putting the GH heaters back on. I will be doing a bit more in the garden today too but not too much x

Yes lillyrose, Sasha loved running about on the frosty grass over the park this morning and has been laying on the wet grass in the garden for most of the day. Our dinner is smelling lovely. I got some oxtail yesterday (which I've never noticed before in Sainsburys) and have put it in a casserole and have just put some dumplings on top, and that will be followed by homemade apple and quince crumble with ice cream. The quince is from the fruit off the Chaenomeles and it's the first time I've got to try them so haven't a clue how that one is going to turn out...

Mmmmm, bet you kitchen smells yummy Sue . I noticed oxtail in the butchers yesterday along with stewing lamb and rabbit where all the BBQ meat usually was. We had a beef stew today with herby dumplings and for afters baked apples, stuffed with dried fruit, and custard. How was your crumble, did you like the quince. I didn't end up doing much in the garden today, just a bit of pottering. I have just lit the fire and have a ham bone simmering to make stock for soup in the week so once that is done I will be curled up on the sofa with Maisie enjoying the fire

Morning all, sunny here and warm enough to have the back door open. That was a shame with the oxtail Sue, I will still give it a try but will probably use it for soup. Glad you enjoyed the quince. Well my washing is all on the line and there isn't alot to be done indoors so looks like I will be spending a big part of the day in the garden. The front could do with a weed and tidy then just a potter in the back. I have just made a ham and veggie soup which is simmering away so that is lunch taken care of. x
