Hi all,
I had some disappointments too AnthonyD, I think we all get them, but it doesn't stop us trying it all over again next year
You put me to shame Lillyrose getting all your pots and trays cleaned, I've only just got round to emptying the gh so far It was a sticky lemon and poppyseed drizzle cake (Angela Harnett recipe) and turned out lovely, I was surprised how easy it was to make!
Yes Sue, the hospital is nearly all the way to Newcastle, but needs must I guess.
Well, here goes, catch up with you all tonight maybe's,

Good afternoon all, Thanks all for the nice comments on Nicola's horse and piano cake. Hope all is well with the results Susiq, have a safe journey to the hospital and back. It seems quite a long journey for you. My tomatoes haven't come to very much this year either AnthonyD they were all so small and mostly didn't ripen up, but I will try again next year.
I still have the trays to wash and put away Sue. Have a good day today in work, last one of the week so that is always the best one ! I took down all my bean sticks yesterday lillyrose and collected the last few runner beans. I just made some butternut squash soup, from a squash we bought last week up the farm shop. Tonight we are having chicken pieces wrapped in bacon and some oven chips.

That must be a pain having to do that drive for two days on the trot Susiq, hope your OH got the results he wanted. That lemon cake sounds gorgeous. Your runner beans lasted for longer than ours did Richard, ours got uprooted in the strong winds we had a good couple of weeks or so ago.

Please forgive this interruption to the chat. I just have an overwhelming need to rant & I also know I'm a grumpy bat too so I won't mind being ignored. Whilst waiting for the Archers to start I thought I'd have a browse through an Online Plant Shop. During the summer it seems Cerinthe major was being offered at £5.99 each presumably with postage on top of that. Its just a hardy annual. They grow like weeds from cheap seed without heat or special attention just like nasturtiums . How can a price like that be justified? What does that say to beginner gardeners? Thank you for your patience. Rant ends here.

£5.99 does seem a bit steep for an annual kaydee. I bought one last year for around £2 from a garden centre and it self seeded well and I had quite a few plants come up this year from that one.

Bad luck any novice who didn't realise they were annuals and would die at the end of the year. Yes indeed, what a rip off.Whenever I find time to look at the idle chat I'm amazed by the 300 or so posts since I last looked. How do you all find time to garden? I hope my sheep are all now pregnant but we need more rain while it is still warm enough to make the grass grow. The ground is still too hard to get a fork in over most of the garden and I have lots of plants queueing up in pots waiting to go in. If we flip over into frosts too soon I wont be able to get them in and will have to find a way of wintering them. I still have a couple of roses in the veg plot where I heeled them in in the spring. They are super roses but I don't really want them amongst the spuds.Internet chat, like this year's catalogues ,is for dark evenings
For the Snark was a boojum you see

Hi all,
Its actually mild here today for a change I just cut a big bunch of dahlias (and a small vase of sweetpeas) for the kitchen table, thinking maybe's the frosts will take them off very soon!
Humph Sue, is this really the start of xmas shopping queues All the shops seem to be packed to the rafters with xmas goodies - why can't they just wait until at least halloween or bonfire night is over!
Hope your connectivity is ok Lillyrose, so very frustrating when you can't connect
All went well yesterday thanks all, hospital have given him more meds that he will have to stay on for good, but at least they should keep him on an even keel Ha ha there's me moaning about xmas goodies, but I'm going to start off some of Delia's pickled shallots in sherry vinegar later today, you have to soak them for 24 hours in brine first. Pork chops tonight, and I think I'll roast some of the red toms with garlic and basil

Hi everyone. Late again . No, not the internet this time, I have had GS since seven this morning and he has only just gone back . DIL had the hospital first thing and needed several tests so it was a long day. I took him up my Mum's lunch time and he had great fun in her garden . I am flippin knackered though . The only time he was still was when he had a nap late morning. I am really pleased it went well yesterday Susiq, that must be a huge weight off your mind. I have got chops tonight too but mine are lamb, they were half price in the butchers last week so I bought a load and put them in the freezer. I didn't go shopping today Sue, didn't fancy juggling that with GS in tow. I will have to grit my teeth and go tomorrow.

Glad you have some good weather at last Susiq and it's great to hear that your OH's results were ok, so I'm assuming that providing he keeps taking his medication, he should be ok I think you could be right about the queues too, there were plenty of people queuing up with wrapping paper. I did get a very good bargain in one shop this morning and I won't embarrass the shop by naming it, but I got quite a few items in there (a couple were xmas pressies) and thought the bill seemed a bit low and when I checked my receipt when I got home, I found that I hadn't been charged for a jumper I bought for myself not my fault that the young lady on the till forgot to scan it and she even asked me if I wanted the hanger and probably thought she'd already done it when she was taking the hanger out. You might be pleasantly surprised tomorrow lillyrose, I find Sainsburys is quieter on a Saturday than it is on a Friday, especially if I can get in there and out again by 10am. Enjoy a nice relaxing evening with your feet up after looking after GS today. We've been busy this afternoon taking the old greenhouse down and that took longer than we thought it would, so that's going to it's new home tomorrow and I've got my pot growing space back now It was tuna pasta bake for our dinner.

Morning all, it's warming up quite nicely outside now the sun is out but now the nights are cooling down, I think I'd better move the lemon tree and the Dipladenia into the greenhouse today. Hope you don't have to do too much battling round with the shopping today lillyrose, it was quite quiet when I went
