Hi all I have a passion flower located against a southfacing wall which I planted last year. It hasn't started to show any signs of life at all this year and I am a bit concerned about it. I haven't cut it back at all, basically planted it, put a trellis behind it and left it as I heard they were virtually fool proof to grow. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. James

Passion flowers can be slow to get going, my old one always used to wait until May before it showed any signs of new life so don't give up on it yet
Give it a go - it might just work!

I have a passion flower that I inherited from the previous owners of my house and it seems to be pretty industructible. it's in my greenhouse and went unwatered and uncared for for a long time. It looked a bit sad over winter but it's just starting to pick up now so maybe yours is just taking a while to get started this year. I wouldn't give up on it quite yet

Our neighbour has one which grows over a south facing wall - last year (when it was planted) it grew miles and miles! But this year it looked mostly dead but I went to take a look and there was alot of dead stuff but hidden amongst it were some green stems. I have cut out the dead and it looks to be thriving now. Passion flowers are hardy hardy! Mine grew so big in my little London garden that we were continually up ladders "hacking" it back - nothing seemed to stop it!

Many thanks for all your help to those who have replied. I think I'm starting to see signs of life in the plant, but should I trim back any o last years growth?

The plant is growing, but the bottom 2ft or so is bare and it looks a bit daft on the trellis with an exposed bare base. Could I cut it back relatively low now it has started growing?

I would leave it to grow rather than cutting it back. How about planting something just in front of it to cover the bare section of stem?
Give it a go - it might just work!

My passiflora was planted about 7 years ago against a south facing fence and has flourished until this year. Near the end of May now and still zero sign of any growth. Is it dead???

passion flowers can be hard to start off but then they can be pretty hardy and grow quickly but will reqiure help via wire or netting.
I often put staks in with most plants like azaleas and rhododendrons as they can get rather wild and blown about easily
