I am digging a deep bed to fill with compost and grow veg in. Would it be a good, or bad idea to line the bottom of the pit I dig, with last year's fallen Beech tree leaves, before filling it with compost? Thanks for any advice, Busy Bee.

I'm not a very experienced gardener (actually I'm pretty much a novice) but I think I would rake these beech leaves up put them in a black bin bag with some water and tie and leave to make leaf mulch to dig in to your bed. Will probably take a year or so but I read somewhere that this is the best thing to do with fallen leaves.
