Is the RHS involved in DEFRA's Be Plant Wise campaign? It seems amazing that you can still buy some really nasty aquatic plants...

There is a problem in the New Forest near me of non native water plants having been dumped in streams and ponds and they are choking them. A destruction programme is now in place but it is struggling to keep up

Yes, apparently: https://secure.fera.defra.gov.uk/nonnativespecies/beplantwise/ The problem lies in that there are many small scale sellers of water plants who are not perhaps very knowledgeable and but their stock from abroad. The HTA are addressing this in their membership: http://www.the-hta.org.uk/page.php?pageid=345 to try and raise standards in nurseries and retailers. Boggy
