Another well known gardening organisation's forum is running a debate on this somewhat emotive subject following their president having apparently said that he would not object to what he calls "peoples GM"

I do recall that the subject does occasionally come up on this forum but I was wondering whether there is an official RHS opinion on the matter?

Hmmm I'm not sure if the society has an official opinion on gm, however it is a form of horticulture and so should probably be supported like other forms of horticulture are supported by the society. In the famous book frankenstein was a much misunderstood and I feel under rated scientist, who never did seem to get a fair crack of the whip so to speak. I think if people had given frankenstein a chance things may not have gone awry. Anyway that was fiction and GM is a real issue, I wonder if the society is on the fence on this issue?
