    Hello all

bit of a strange one: I need to carry out an activity morning for some children on an estate I'm working on.

I've done something similar before but in the summer. One of the activites young children enjoy are painting their own terracotta pots, then planting and plug plant and taking them home to watch them grow.

Can anyone reccommend a cheap plant/bulb to be planted around October?

waiting in anticipation for some amazing idea's!!

    thanks

    Claire

How about you go for a walk about with the group, identify and collect some acorns or other tree seeds..you can put a few in a pot, then the kids will have a tree to plant out next autumn....? I sowed some last year, about now, they grew before christmas, and still have leaves on now..!

There are plenty of inexpensive bulbs, like daffodils, snowdrops, muscari, crocus, etc.  If cost is a consideration, do you have a nearby garden centre who might sponsor the bulbs?  Doesn't hurt to ask.  What about winter flowering pansies?  Is this an outdoor or indoor project?  Hyacinths and other fragrant bulbs are great for children to do ready for Christmas presents.

One is nearer God's heart in a garden than anywhere else on earth.
