Hi, i hope someone can offer me some advice. I've moved into my 1930s house over 12 months ago, and am now ready to work of the garden. Its been overrun with weeds, bluebells and ivy, so i've been busy clearing out. There are afew established roses, which i'm definately keeping. What i'd like to know is, what flowers, bulbs, shrubs etc are really typical/classical for a house of this period. I'm guessing foxglove and lupin, plus the roses, but beyond that i'm stuck. Any ideas anyone?

I have a 1930's gardening book at home. I'll check it out but you'll probably find that it isn't much different from now. Just older and probably unobtainable varieties..

Hi Rick, As for flowers, I imagine you would find Golden Rod and Snapdragons. Plus, as at that time they were heading up for WWll I think you'll find a lot more emphasis on the kitchen garden with old favourites like spuds, cabbage and rhubarb.
There is no such thing as useless - you can always be a bad example.
