I have been groeing some rocket in a terracotta pot and all of a sudden they have started flowering, long thin flowers. is this normal or am i doing something wrong. i did not know rocket flowered?

Sounds as though it has gone to seed to me (come to the end of it's life), you can still eat it now but it will probably be a bit tough and not taste as nice as it did).
If I were you, I would sow some more to replace it.

They do run to seed quite quickly, but if the plant is growing well
you can cut out the flowering stems and cntinue picking leaves. If you
leave it too long the leaves may get old and tough as Lynsey says.Keep
picking to get more young leaves.
Growing in light shade and keeping the plant well watered will give you leaves to pick over a longer period.
If you can, sow a few seeds every few weeks for a constant supply.

my coriander has started getting little flowers on too - is this the same?

It sounds like it Amanda, my spinach has bolted too before the plants got big enough to pick any leaves. I think the recent hot weather has had a hand in it.
