Mine were coming up a treat, better than OH's. A few days later when I went on the allotment the wood pigeons had ate the lotAngry.

I'll be starting from scratch this weekend, I hope it's not too late!!!

Good luck with starting another lot Tracyj, had you got any netting in place to stop the flying pigs scoffing them?  I put a line of netting up as soon as the peas germinated and the birds haven't been anywhere near them.

Of my ones planted in raised beds on 7th April - two of the sugarsnaps have got their first flowersYes

Sue 1002 - I seem to be approx a week to 10 days behind you. I planted on 11th April and am also a little further north. I have flowers on the Sugarsnaps and the Mangetout are really looking healthy. I am waiting to see when you pick and I know I won't be too far behind!!

After all the rain we've had lately BB, I might get to pick some of the sugarsnaps later, there's not many ready but it's a startSmile  The mangetout have a few flowers but no pods ready to pick yet.

They are very quick to crop then aren't they. I make that 10 weeks. I notice it says to pick them when they are about 3" long and the peas are just forming. There is a lot of flower on my Sugarsnaps so I know I dont have to wait much longer. There has been a lot of rain here in the last few days too - good growing weather!!!!

I'm taking a guess that the sugarsnaps would be ready to pick before the mangetout because they don't grow as high.  The sugarsnaps started flowering at almost 2 foot high and the mangetout started flowering later when the plants were about 3 foot high.

I took the tape measure out with me and picked only the ones that were 3 inches long - the peas were only just visible through the pods, there's plenty on the plants that are currently about 2 inches long so I shouldn't have long to wait for some moreBig Smile

There's no sign of flowers yet on the ones I planted in windowboxes but they were sown later and both sorts are putting on good growth.

I got enough of the sugarsnaps for a meal yesterdayBig Smile  The mangetout look like they will be ready in a day or two for those.

Of the ones sown in windowboxes on 28th April - the sugarsnaps are now beginning to flower, no sign of flowering yet on the mangetout but I expect they will follow in a couple of days or so.

I have pods of about 1½" long and masses of flowers on the sugarsnaps.(The Mangetout have only just begun flowering) I have to keep adjusting the netting as the birds just seem to love them and the slightest gap or 'grow through' results in a peck-fest. I am looking forward in anticipation to picking. We just need to swap recipes then!

At long last I have buds on the sugarsnap - I know this because I've just got back from the garden centre and found a wood pigeon pecking away at them. Yes I really did mean to buy that net but as mine are so far behind I thought I had plenty of time.I have put some chickenwire over them and hope its not too late.No sign of the mangetout.

I had the first picking of Sugarsnaps yesterday (Sunday 20/06/2009). They were delicious with new potatoes also out of the garden and roast lamb. The mangetout are really quite tall, at least 1metre and are in flower but no pods ready.

I've got a few pods developing, my 4 year old however keep picking them  and eating them. not giving them chance to grow properly.  Every evening after school we have to check if her peas are ready, even though i tell her not yet when my back is turned she's there munching the sugarsnaps, I'd love to know what they taste like.Smile

The Sugarsnaps are coming thick and fast now and I have copious amounts of them - far more than I expected so that is a good result on yields. They are really delicious (I particularly like them stir fried). Still waiting for my 1st Mangetout pods to be ready.
