clearing brambles from gorse patch

    I have a patch of lovely gorse but it is full of brambles.  Someone has suggested I burn the lot then dig out the brambles as they reappear.  Do you think this will work?  Has anyone tried burning gorse in a garden?  I understand it burns well - should I cut it down first to minimise the risk of the fire spreading?

    Hi,

     I know it may sound a chore, but can you not prune the brambles down and treat the stems with some weedkiller (to kill the roots) rather than burning the whole lot?

    There is nothing better than the smell of gorse in flower on a sunny day!!!
