Artichokes and earwigs

    Last year I grew some wonderful globe artichokes and the first I cooked were excellent.  Unfortunately within a short time the earwigs inhabited them making this wonderful vegetable inedible!  Any suggestions how to combat them this year?

    I think you are supposed to stuff some straw into small pots and put them upside down on top of canes around the area you want to catch them, then remove the earwigs the next day and squash them
