     He always seemed to be a nice person as well as an excellent gardener.

    Geoffrey Smith was a real gentleman. I can well remember when I was first becoming fascinated by gardening. I watched avidly his programme "Geoffrey Smith's World of Flowers" and felt moved to write to him with a question. I received - almost by return post - a delightful handwritten letter, helping me, with his customary self-deprecating humour.

    He was an inspiration to so many gardeners and, without doubt, was instrumental in developing my passion and many others' for gardening.

    RIP You will be warmly remembered by many.
