     HI

I am a native Brit who is settled in Connecticut in the Northeast of the USA. I have been asked by my daughter's school (kindergarden to 14years) to design and project manage a school garden. I am a garden designer (2nd career) and I have a pretty good idea of some of the design issues  but we are much further behind the UK in this area and I am keen to get adavice and ideas from those who have gone before!

(One of the the main challenges here is that our climate is much more extreme than the UK-and the children have 3 months summer holidays from Mid june to mid september).

I am visting the UK in Mid march and again in May for the Chelsea flower show and would love to visit a school garden in London or the south east - to get information and  ideas. I note there is a RHS regional coordinator in the south east-Alison Findlay. but I am not sure how to contact her directly.

     many thanks for any help

     Lucy Van Liew

The Growing Schools Garden, now in its permanent home at the Greenwich Environmental Curriculum Centre, was first exhibited at the 2002 Hampton Court Flower Show where it attracted many thousands of visitors and high media interest. The Royal Horticultural Society judges declared the garden an inspiration to young people and awarded it a silver gilt medal. It will be a resource for schools and local education authorities in London and nationally. Visit the garden on www.schoolsgarden.org.uk

    Hi Lucy

Many thanks for your interest in our school gardening campaign.  We have a website at http://www.rhs.org.uk/SCHOOLGARDENING/default.aspa which is the RHS official school gardening website. There are some excellent case studies on this website, why not have a look at this address:  http://www.rhs.org.uk/SCHOOLGARDENING/teachershome/casestudies/default.aspa to find more information on what other schools have been able to achieve in their school gardens.

This campaign has been set up because we want to inspire all schools to get gardening. The Campaign provides resources to help teachers set up and make the most of their school garden, teach the National Curriculum outdoors and inspire their pupils to live greener lifestyles. Why not Register now for more information?

    Kind regards
