    Hi there all

I have just purchased some Sweet Cicely seeds, and although I don't quite know how the name is pronounced, I am a little confused about the plant.

I have read in my books that the seeds need to be sown in Winter to break the dormancy, yet on the instructions it says to sow early autumn under glass.

Another school of thought tells me to put the seeds in the fridge for a coupkle of weeks.

I suppose I could split the pack into 3rds and try all three methods.

    Any ideas?

Given the gift of growing your own is a reward far greater than buying veg from a supermarket, don't you think?

I'm only guessing, but possibly the dormancy mechanism in the seed has already been broken, so that it doesn't need the "fake winter" stage to germinate?

Hopefully someone who knows, rather than guesses will be along soon!Big Smile

I would be inclined to think that before winter - ie autumn, in winter or in the fridge all spell to needing a time of cold. I tried to sow some in Spring a year or two ago without success but a friend had them self seeding so I acquired one from them -

Its great to put a leaf in the pan when you cook rhubarb - lets you feel the enamel on your teeth is safe for another day!

    Good Luck
