A Government minister said today she could see the first green shoots of the economy - which got me thinking about the real shoots in my garden. I spotted the tiny tips of bluebells emerging, about a centimetre of allium shoots and of course the crocus, daffs and snowdrops are already well on their way. Anyone else?

Haven't seen any bluebells yet, but I have seen daffs start to come through. I can't grow crocuses in my garden, because of the squirrels - they always seem to nick the lot. I'm also keeping an eye out for early signs of politicians talking sense. I don't expect anything anytime soon, though...

That government minister has been soundly mocked for the 'green shoots' gaffe, but as far as the green shoots in the garden go, at least there are some to see there. Lots of bulbs coming up here, especially snowdrops, the first pink shoots of paeonies and Dicentra, and a great many arum leaves curling out of the ground. It's all on the up :-)
