I have been looking at the different varieties of Strelitzia listed in the plant finder section and understand the difference between the shape of the leaves for the juncea variety. I also understand that the alba and nicloai varieties I believe have white flowers instead.

What I'd really like to know though is which variety has yellow flowers instead of orange? This is the bit that confuses me because when I go to google images and type in Strelitzia Reginae as well as looking at this in Wikipedia Commons it brings up photos of this variety where some of the photos show it with orange flowers and other photos are yellow. How can this be? Does this one variety have different coloured flowers or have a couple of people taking the photos got a different variety with yellow flowers and not realised it?

    E.g. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=strelitzia and...

    http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&safe=off&q=strelitzia%20reginae&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi

I would like one with yellow flowers instead of the orange and don't want to be disappointed by the time I eventually get one to flower once I've bought it, which, could take a couple of years and a lot of heavy feeder. I'm probably going to be mail ordering it so want to make sure I get the right variety.

There are a few other varieties listed on RHS' useful Plant Finder as well:

    Thanks for your advice,

    John

There is a S. reginae variety called 'Mandela's Gold', and another called 'Kirstenbosch Gold', both of which have yellow flowers. They are gorgeous: I can see why you like them. Thompson and Morgan sell the seeds of 'Mandela's Gold', but they're not cheap: £6.99 for three seeds. Try the RHS Plant Finder.
