My son planted a Robinia Tree on the birth of his daughter 10 years ago in my garden. For years it has had the most fantastic leaves, but for the past two years it has been very poor. Some branches are bare. My son moved to Perth WA and had a Robinia in his garden and the same thing has happened. We blamed the two wet summers we have had but that cannot be the reason he lost his tree. Do they only last a few years?

    Hi Ann

We have two Robinia's in our garden, one of them has not had any leaf show at all this year, the other about 50%. There seems to be quite a lot of problems with these trees around the country at present. If you do a search on this website for Robinia the other threads will come up. I notice you are a RHS member, I contacted the RHS about these problems earlier in the year and they said that if we provided some samples to them they would test them as they do not know at the moment what is causing the problems. If you would like to send me a 'contact' message with your email address rather than a 'reply' I will forward a copy of their email to you.

Apparently the RHS advice service has had a lot of enquiries similar to yours. This profile might help: www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profiles0708/robinia.asp
