I don't know about folks in the UK but here on the East Coast in the U.S., houses have damp, humid basements which require a dehumidifier during the summer months, which get really sticky and wet. Some days it is so humid down in the basement, that you have to empty the water tank twice a day. This is about 3-4 gallons of good water. I use it to water pots just outside the door, but am thinking of getting a big barrel for reservoir. This year, we are having "English" weather, lots of rain, so water is not a problem right now.

Maybe it will be the right conditions for growing mushrooms in your cellar?

Yes, I think it is great conditions for all types of fungi!!!. We have lots of them sprouting now and then, those pretty red tops with yellow dots on them.....and some really weird ones. But I haven't caught the mushroom craze yet.

Its so wet up here in Northumberland, we get all sorts of weird an wonderful fungii popping up around the garden, I'm just not brave enough to try ANY of them, despite having bought a full colour book about which ones are safe and which ones are deadly! I would want an expert with me who would be prepared to taste them first..................

Hi, Susieq---
I can relate with you on the fear factor. I also borrowed books from the library to study mushrooms before but still wasn't sure about any type I found. Wish I knew an expert....
