Whilst enjoying my usual fortnightly amble around Wisley this morning my attention was taken, in the Model Vegetable Garden. by something called Basell de la uva?/Ceylon Spinach being grown up canes. As the very helpful young gentleman in that garden, Richard, appeared not to be in attendance and as I had another more pressing question for the excellent young ladies in the Advisory Pavillion I left the Garden still being somewhat in the dark about this vegetable. Having consulted Mr Google, I am now left with the impression that Ceylon Spinach will cure anything from Bird Flu to Flat Feet Have any of the wise people participating in these Forum come across Ceylon Spinach in the past and do they know where the seeds may be sourced. Any advice would be very much appreciated Thank you

Ceylon spinach is a leafy veg consisting of various perennial species of Basella widely used as leafy greens in hot countries. You just sow seeds in pots in a frost free greenhouse in spring, plant out into any fertile well drained garden soil in full sun or light shade in early summer and off it goes. They make good ground cover or climbers. The first frost will polish them off, although I suppose you could try keeping plants in windowsills or in conservatoties.
Chilterns supply seeds.
