I often see Ridge Cucumbers described as outdoor varieties.  Will they grow successfully in the greenhouse, or am I wasting my space?  Do they need space to spread over the ground, or can I support with a cane ?

     Thanks

They will grow fine in greenhouses and can be trained up sticks or string, but why would you want to grow them when greenhouse cultivars are so much better?  Ridge cucumbers are very second best in most people's opinion.

Well having just managed to finish building my new greenhouse, I was in a bit of rush to buy while there were still some plants around.  (Next year will be from seed).   That, coupled with the wife's fond memories of the Ridge cucumbers her Grandfather used to grow, led me to buy a plant.

I presume I need to remove the male flowers to stop them from going bitter ?

Well, if it a family tradition it would be impious to deny your wife' s heritage.  No reason to remove male flowers from ridge cucs and in fact doing so would lead to no crop.

Well then what do you know  Boggy, I put a (worldwide) search in google "supports in greenhouse for rdge cucumbers" and I'll be damned if it didn't lead me straight to you and this particular thread (albeit a year old now). It has answered my query nicely as my OH and I have almost the same problems 1. bit late finishing my pride and joy greenhouse  2. my OH not reading lables properly in her excitement and  3. me remembering my father growing them. Our only difference is that my OH has grown them from seed and didn't even realise there was a problem until the tendrils started reaching for my tomato plants. I think I now vaguely recall my old man tying twine up in the GH for the cucumbers to climb up! Anyway, I hope it is not too late but I am putting some of the surplus plants outside and can you tell me what if any support you would use for them?

    Cheers
