Thank you to everyone who replied to my post on bind weed. As it is intertwined amongst the plants it is going to be a battle, and weed killer is not really an option neither is covering it with membrane as the garden is 22 foot long!. I will get digging! And hopefully win the battle against it eventually.

Have you tried untangling it from your plants and training it up a garden cane?  You can then treat it with weedkiller more easily.  I remember Fred Loads ( Ithink) suggesting this, and then using a rubber glove, topped with a fabric glove to apply the weedkiller. Some wallpaper paste added to the liquid makes it more controllable. Hope this helps..

     Hi Jo

In my last garden I had a problem with bind weed.  What I did was find the sorce of the plant, pull down at least 3 foot of the weed.  Get a sandwich plastic bag, put the 3 foot of weed in the bag still attached to root, spray inside the bag covering all the leaves with weedkiller.  This way you can kill the weed without actually damaging any of the other plants around.  Also it is very easy to do.  Use the tier to tie up the bag so that it keeps the weedkiller and the weed inside.

I did manage to eradicate the problem but it will take time .....

    Hope this helps.

We had bad bind weed established in our garden when we moved in and I'd never had a garden before, talk about the deep-end!  I trained it up bamboo poles (as suggested above) and then treated it with weedkiller and I also dug it repeatedly.  Fortunately we were happy to just dig up the bed and largely start again, which is probably an advantage.  Anyhow, I managed to get it beaten and within two years it was gone.  Persevere, it will go, honest!
