What's a "moderated forum" and why can't I post a reply on one?
Mary When we first set up the bulletin board we wanted to ensure that none of the material posted was of a derogatory, abusive, illegal etc nature. As a result, we set up the moderated forums which are moderated by me. Posts can only go live once I accept them as being suitable.
So, that must mean you blocked my posting. Why - I was asking a legitimate question?
By the way: This wasn't my first attempt at posting on a Moderated Forum. The rejection is always immediate: "You do not have permission to perform this action" ... or words to that effect.
A moderated forum requires that the moderator or administrator approves new topics and replies before they appear on the board. Some areas are fully moderated for the reasons outline above. Other areas are moderated so that new topics have to be moderated before going live - this has been done where we want posts to be focussed on the topics shown. We have set up some areas specifically for public information such as 'The Show Round Up' Information which only the moderator can post to.
So discussion of Hampton Court is now "moderated" out of existence. The RHS has not learned anything from this whole fiasco. And, as we all know, those who do not learn from their past are destined to relive it.
How can you moderate if we're not allowed to reply? Could you not field our replies and queries into a holding pen and then post them once checked. I wanted to ask a perfectly innocent question about the dates for Tatton as I have to start planning my summer activities now as they involve various visits to friends and relations as well as our own holiday. How offensive or dangerous could that be?
