Last few signed Alan Titchmarsh books available

Posted by Wisley Plant Centre on 22 Apr 2009 at 10:23 AM

We had such an uplifting evening in the plant centre last week.  Alan Titchmarsh came to give a Q & A session and to sign books for enthusiastic customers.

We had the sound system in place in our pavilion so everyone could hear the Qs and As.  Alan dealt with every question in a witty and gentle way, generously sharing his knowledge about gardening and with such humour that he had his audience of 250 in stitches.

He was whole-hearted in his praise of our plant centre which he said was one of his favourite places (I have to tell you this!) and told us how much he enjoyed shopping here.  He also deliberated on how plant prices are perceived as expensive; he compared the price of a plant to a tank of petrol and observed on the former’s longevity and how much pleasure it gives.  We listened to his unreserved support of British growers and he reminded us (in the nicest possible way of course) of the responsibility we all share as gardeners to keep Britain green.  If each of us looks after our own patch then we can remain green.

His ‘How to Garden’ books were (and are) on sale here and the audience lapped them up.  Alan stayed well over his time for signing and he autographed extra books that are now on sale while stocks last.  Come and visit the RHS Wisley Garden and buy a copy in the plant centre on your way out – or just come and buy one; you don’t need to go into the RHS Garden to visit us.

Did we enjoy the evening?  You bet.  Will he be back to Wisley Plant Centre?  As soon as we can arrange it.  We’ll let you know.
