Manic May! - Sowing & Planting on the Trials Field

Posted by Trials on 23 May 2008 at 08:47 AM

It is a very exciting time on the trials field at the moment, we are at our busiest period in terms of planting.  Over the next few weeks we will be filling up the beds with a range of annuals, herbaceous and vegetable plants.  For more information about what's on trial in 2008 visit http://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/trials_list.asp

A few highlights I think to look out for this year will be; Dahlias, Chrysanthemums, Delphiniums, Tagetes (marigolds), sweet potatoes and Kniphofias (red hot pokers).

In fact Kniphofia 'Atlanta' (above) is already setting the trials field ablaze with a fantastic, very floriferous, early display.  This cultivar was entered to trial by Monksilver Nursery in Cambridge http://www.monksilver.com/ and is also listed in the latest copy of The RHS Plantfinder, http://www.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantfinder/plantfinder.asp

The French bean trial will be sown this week, this trial should be popular as we are trialing beans with different coloured pods which will then be sold in our plant centre.  Click here to find a list of entries http://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/trials_list.asp

Do come and say hello to the team, we should be recognisable because we will be moving pretty fast around the field during this peak time.
