Rosemoor Garden RHS Garden Rosemoor

Set deep in the beautiful North Devon Countryside, RHS Garden Rosemoor was gifted to the RHS in 1988 by Lady Anne Berry, and since then the original eight acres have been greatly developed into 65 acres of enchanting garden and woodlands. In this blog, we will keep you updated with what's going on in the garden and what's looking good when, as well as letting you know about the exciting programme of events we are holding throughout the year. Enjoy!

Happy 200th Birthday to the Bramley Apple!

Posted by Rosemoor Garden on 13 Oct 2009 at 12:10 PM

As part of Rosemoors’ Apple Day celebrations we were honoured to have been donated a ‘limited edition’ Bramley Apple tree that had been grafted from the original that is still going strong 200 years on in Nottinghamshire. The graft (one of 200) was donated to Rosemoor by the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers whose Master, Alan French, came to Rosemoor to plant the tree in our orchard just outside our Fruit and Veg Garden.

Also present at the ceremony was Celia Steven, from Buckland Monachorum, who is a passionate promoter of the Bramley Apple. Celia is the Great Granddaughter of Henry Merryweather – who was the Nurseryman that recognised the Bramley apple as being significant enough to propagate.

Apple pie anyone?
