Bloomin’ Lovely Scents of Summer!

Posted by Rosemoor Garden on 19 Jun 2009 at 10:32 AM

Rosemoor’s two Rose Gardens are looking (and smelling) absolutely fantastic at the moment, even if I do say so myself! In fact, many of us can’t actually recall a time when the roses and associated planting have looked so good. The Queen Mother’s Rose Garden is the more formal of the two, but in my opinion, it’s the Shrub Rose Garden that really steals the show this summer.

Around every corner there is a different planting combination. Of course, the roses are the stars of the show, but astrantia, geraniums, clematis, alchemilla, polemonium and penstemon are all among the carefully selected perennials which accompany them. There are double roses, single roses, climbers and ramblers creating a frothing mass of blooms with as many different scents as there are colours.

Both rose gardens have reached a crescendo of colour and scent this week, just in time to form a heady backdrop to the ‘Scents of Summer’ weekend this Saturday and Sunday (20 & 21 June). Indulge your senses with two days full of all the glorious scents of the garden in June. There will be plenty to do for everyone, including sensuous ‘smell boxes’, where you can test your senses, walks, talks, advice and children’s trails. The weekend features our ever-popular Rose Sunday.

So come along to Rosemoor this weekend and celebrate all that is delightful about the garden in summer!

Although I can't smell the flowers from India, I can get the heady feeling of rose scent by looking at the pictures.
