Birdie fun this February Half Term at Rosemoor

If you fancy a spot of bird watching, then bring your family along to RHS Garden Rosemoor in Great Torrington, Devon this February Half Term (14 – 22 February) for a fascinating ‘Birds in the Garden’ week, and join in the fun of spotting and learning about our feathered friends!

February is a perfect time for seeing birds in the garden. They are more easily spotted without the leaves on the trees, and at Rosemoor we have a huge selection of resident and visiting birds frequenting the many bird feeders we have. Buzzards, Ravens, Chaffinches and Song Thrushes, as well as Tawny Owls, Barn Owls, Little Egrets and Goldfinches have all been spotted at Rosemoor, and you may also be lucky enough to see some of the birds occupying the 108 nest boxes situated around the garden.

Throughout Half Term week, there will be lots of interesting birdie-themed activities to take part in, including Bird I-Spy, Bird Walks, Nest displays and a Children’s Photographic Competition. There will also be a visit from Owl and Raptor rescue group ‘Owls are Us’ on Wednesday 18 February, who will bring in a variety of different species of owls, and be on hand to answer your questions on anything owl related!

February is also a great time to see the wonderful selection of winter flowering shrubs in the garden, as well as a wealth of berries, bark and colourful stems. In addition the first signs of Spring are beginning to appear – a heartening sight after a winter that has seemed particularly long and cold.
