Now that's a concept

One of my favourite areas of Hampton Court Palace Flower Show - although I'm not clever enough to understand it - are the conceptual gardens. A series of gardens that 'push the boundaries of garden design' - which is, I guess, why I can't understand them!

This year, my favourite is the It's Hard To See garden by Rebecca Butterworth, Victoria Pustygina and Ludovica Ginanneschi.

It's a simple 'garden' that is sunk into the ground. The concept is complicated, so read the description on the RHS website. If you can understand it please let me know!

This concept garden follows a very similar idea to an installation that can currently be seen on display at the Barbican Art Gallery in the City of London - as part of their inspiring Radical Nature Exhibition.

Designed by the Italian art collective A12, the garden is set in a wooden cube that rises from the floor of the Gallery. The inner walls of the cube are lined with glass panels and these reflect the planting within the cube - really a vertical format of this garden at Hampton.

The Radical Nature exhibition at the Barbican is certainly worth checking out - especially for those interested in how nature has provided inspiration for artists and architects in recent years.
