Opening week at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and visitors are loving the garden! It's great to hear the positive response and see the garden come alive with people walking through it. Guiding volunteers are on hand to give more information to visitors and to answer questions - and we've had quite a range asked!
Visitors: What can you do with medlars?
Guiding volunteer: You can make them into chutneys and jellies, they are nice with cheese
V: What have you made the raised beds out of?
GV: Treated wood which is then painted with stain
V: What's that plant with the red fruit on it?
GV: Strawberry spinach and you eat the fruit and use the leaves like spinach
V: Can you tell me how to get back to the car park?
GV: Which car park did you park in?
V: How long did it take to put the garden together?
GV: We have been working on the garden for a year and it took three weeks to build it here at the show
V: Why are your Okra larger than the ones I grow?
GV: Because they have been grown for a show garden
V: Can I measure your greenhouse?
GV: No need to, it measures 8' x 8' and it's from Gabriel Ash
V: What's that plant with the Penstemon-like flowers?
GV: A Sesame plant
V: How did you get your Agapanthus to grow so big?
GV: We got a nice man from Crocus to grow them for us!
V: We really love your garden, it's fantastic! You should have got a gold medal.
GV: Thank you, we like it too!
