Luckily
I do speak and understand German to a basic level. Ally, my fiancée
is German and I've been learning for a few years. Usually my skills
are reserved for chatting with friends and ordering beer – a very
important phrase I quickly became fluent in ....and can actually say
in several other dialects as a matter of fact....
However,
this week my German knowledge came to the rescue as I “attempted”to
order my garden furniture from Switzerland. Removed was my fall back
of pointing and speaking louder. Thrown into the realm of business
level conversation. I did most of the speaking as I knew that I would
not be able to understand any reply. I assume he understood what it
was I wanted. I certainly bought something of great expense!
The
furniture arrives in a few weeks. I suppose if completely random
objects are delivered I'll just have to drive to Switzerland speak
loud English and point.
