No sleep till Hampton Court

Posted by John Marshall on 02 May 2008 at 10:08 AM

At the risk of tempting fate, I can say it feels like it might all be coming together.

At least, I've got quite a few things ticked off my To Do list this past week. Firstly, I've sourced the barrels we'll need to hold plant tea and liquid manure, and to act as water butts. Timber and fencing for the raised beds is also now sorted.

Even more importantly, I'm getting the people in place. I've now got a team lined up to create those raised beds, and I've put together a watering rota for the plants that are being grown on for our garden. I've even found some friendly farmers to grow barley, wheat, maize and fodder for us - who better!

I'm just hoping everything will fit into the seven-tonne truck I've ordered to deliver the whole lot to Hampton Court in June..

Despite the progress I've made, there's still plenty to keep me awake at night. I've worked out what machinery we'll need to build the garden - but how do I get it cheaply, or for free? Negotiations are under way.

At least I should be able to sleep well while at Hampton Court itself. As a charity, Send a Cow has to keep costs down, so five-star hotels are not an option. Fortunately, fellow volunteers who live nearby have offered to put me up. It's going to be an exhausting few weeks, so I just hope they're not expecting lively conversation in the evenings...
