Jim Gardiner Curator, RHS Wisley Gardens RHS Garden Wisley

Jim Gardiner is the Curator of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Garden at Wisley, a position he has held for over twenty years. Before that he was Curator at the Hillier Gardens and Arboretum. His primary interest is in woody plants, in particular Magnolias on which he has written two books, “Magnolias, their Care and Cultivation” and “Magnolias, A Gardener’s Guide”.

    Last Monday 10th March was Commonwealth Day www.commonwealthday.com, held at Westminster Abbey.  Among the guests were Janet Corrigan from the Seed Department based here at Wisley, along with our President and Director General, and Her Majesty the Queen. This year’s theme was ‘The Environment – Our Future’ and to support this, our Seed Department was involved in supplying 1000 schoolchildren with four packets each of specially selected seeds.

  • Where have all the roses gone?

    If you have visited Weather Hill in the last couple of weeks you may have been a little dismayed.  We've been digging up the roses.  But fear not.  They haven’t gone forever.  We're embarking on a new and exciting rose garden, the Bowes Lyon Rose Garden sponsored by Witan Investments.

    Biodiversity and environmentally friendly horticulture are at the heart of the design of this new rose garden, with the aim of encouraging more beneficial insects like lacewings and lady bird larvae to control pests such as aphids.  Read More...
