Ian LeGros Curator RHS Garden Hyde Hall

I joined the Hyde Hall team as an untrained assistant gardener in 1992, was promoted to Garden Superintendent in April 2005 and then to Curator in June 2006. Over the years I have been lucky enough to play a lead role in many of Hyde Hall’s landmark projects including setting out the Farmhouse Garden, the redevelopment of the Queen Mother’s Garden, and the creation of the Millennium Avenue and Wild Wood. Most recently I helped to co-design the new Robinson Garden which was opened in 2007.

The last of the snow

Posted by Ian LeGros on 02 Jan 2011 at 04:44 PM

The snow is still with us in three or four heaps where it was cleared from the main paths and car park and I am now finding  myself waing for spring already especially with Christmas just out of the way, my thoughts of this are spurred on by the fact the evenings are drawing out already, yes they really are. By the way Happy New Year.

We actually fared quite well plant wise despite the weather just losing a few branches of a Pine Tree in the Robinson Garden and twigs here and there on certain more britle evergreens.

The garden team have done a great job not only during the snow but with the clearing up that has to follow to the point that we are looking like a well groomed garden again. The winter stems of the willows and cornus that we have around the garden are really starting earn their keep reacting with the dead stems of many herbaceous perennials and evergreens. What is nice is seeing people walking round and enjoying the excercise, views and atmosphere of Hyde Hall.

Will be in contact again soon.
