Ian LeGros Curator RHS Garden Hyde Hall

I joined the Hyde Hall team as an untrained assistant gardener in 1992, was promoted to Garden Superintendent in April 2005 and then to Curator in June 2006. Over the years I have been lucky enough to play a lead role in many of Hyde Hall’s landmark projects including setting out the Farmhouse Garden, the redevelopment of the Queen Mother’s Garden, and the creation of the Millennium Avenue and Wild Wood. Most recently I helped to co-design the new Robinson Garden which was opened in 2007.

Our new visitor centre is now open for business!

The new shop carries an extensive range of luxurious and premium brands - which includes for the first time at Hyde Hall - garden tools, bulbs and seeds.  You can then spoil yourself browsing through the extensive collection of books and cards, choose fine foods and indulgent toiletries or maybe pick up some new china and kitchen accessories. Out in the plant centre there are lots of traditional favourites such as roses, clematis, herbs and herbaceous plants along with a good seasonal selection to give your garden colour and interest.  You can rest assured that you will receive sound horticultural advice and quality plants whenever you visit.

In the light, airy and spacious café you will find speciality teas and coffees and a sumptuous range of cakes. For those wanting something a little more substantial, you could try a jacket potato or bowl of soup while you sit and admire the views up to Hyde Hall's hilltop garden.

Open daily from 9.30am the visitor centre is open to members of the public as well as visitors to the garden.  However, if you have the time, make a day of it and stroll round the garden as well - it's the perfect place to gather ideas or simply somewhere to relax and enjoy the eclectic range of horticultural styles.
