The bees at Hyde Hall came through the winter ok, one colony was considerable weaker than the other, but with the lovely warm spring it has more or less managed to catch up.

The colonies have certainly kept us on our toes - they appreciated the warmth of the sun from around mid February to Mid May and foraged well on the Oil Seed Rape. Now is a quiet time for all bees at the moment (June) known to beekeepers as the June gap. July is the usually the peak time for bee forage also unfortunately for swarming. Honey from the Hyde Hall bees should be in the gift shop in July.

Budding Gardeners 2011
