Posted by Graham Rice on 23 May 2010 at 09:14 PM

Contenders have just been announced for the first RHS Chelsea 2010 Plant of the Year - the award for the most inspiring new plant at the Chelsea Flower Show.

This new award is chosen from a shortlist of twenty plants, entered by floral and garden exhibitors at the show, and will be voted on by the RHS Plants Advisory Committee tommorow (Monday, 24 May) at a special Plantsman's Conference.

In addition, top plantsman Roy Lancaster will choose a number of plants to be considered, then chairman Nigel Colborn will oversee short presentations by advocates for every single plant.

The winning plant will be presented with a special trophy by RHS President Giles Coode-Adams, and show visitors will be able to view the overall winner and the shortlisted plants in the Great Pavilion, stand H4 from Tuesday, 25 May.

Hop over to the RHS Chelsea website to see the full list of contenders for the  RHS Chelsea 2010 Plant of the Year.
