The great day arrives!

Posted by Alexandra Denman on 05 May 2010 at 07:44 PM

So it's Wednesday 5 May and the first tranch of Show Gardens have arrived and taken possession of site. What was a perfectly clear show ground yesterday is now heaving with some 200 exhibitors and the first loads of sand, cement and timber. These critical deliveries enable them to get cracking on a 21 day build that finishes at 7am on the morning of Press Day.

Leeds City Council seems to have made the most impressive start. Already their canal lock gates are in place - even if there is some minor tweaking to be done to finally settle them.

Roger Platts, Darren Saines and James Wong were all in today to check everything was going according to plan. We hope to see Tom Hoblyn and Robert Myers on Friday.

It's coming up to 8pm and the majority of people have gone off site. The verdict amongst the contractors is that it was a good first day.  It's a relief to have the first gardens in and settled. Only 500 more exhibitors to bring on site.

21 days build up?  I wish.  I've always known you are an eternal optimist.
